Video: Lisa Townsend on her first two years as Police and Crime Commissioner for Surrey

Lisa Townsend thanks Surrey communities for putting their faith in her as she marks two years as the county’s Police and Crime Commissioner.

Lisa stood for election on 6th May 2021, legally becoming Police and Crime Commissioner for Surrey a week later, at midnight on Thursday 13th May. Soon after this she began developing her Police and Crime Plan for Surrey, which included conducting the widest ever public consultation the county has ever had for a Police and Crime Plan.

After two years in post, Lisa explained how much she has enjoyed getting out across Surrey to meet residents and communities and understand people’s concerns about policing and community safety.

Lisa praised her team at the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for their work since she took office, having brought in an additional £9 million worth of funding for projects and causes across the county. Much of this includes support for victims of crime, including domestic abuse, as well as projects which aim to reduce and prevent crime in the first place.

Speaking about her two years, Lisa said “I have absolutely loved the last two years as Surrey’s Police and Crime Commissioner. It is a privilege to meet residents and communities across our county and work to make our brilliant county even better.

“I am incredibly proud of my team for the huge amount of work they have put in to securing so much additional funding to help support vulnerable people and projects across Surrey. £9 million is an incredible amount of additional funding for our communities, and it is being used to fund a wide range of excellent projects looking at issues such as violence against women and girls, a topic close to my heart.

“I look forward to the coming year as Police and Crime Commissioner, meeting more residents and continuing our work to ensure Surrey is safe and feels safe.

“I am always keen to hear from residents and anyone who needs to contact me or my team for any reason will find a variety of ways to do so on my website.”
